Ahh, That Morning Coffee by Linda S. Glaz

There’s just something about that morning cup that gets you moving. And after Daylight Saving kicks in, caffeine fixes are needed that much more.

What about you? What does it take to get you started in the morning? Do you pray before writing? Exercise? Have a hearty breakfast? Is there a ritual that gets you moving and gets you writing?

I’m the first to admit. I head straight to the computer. I guzzle some water, check emails, check the daily news, and sometimes even check FB for five minutes or so, but before I can actually start writing—I need my coffee!

It’s never strong, never too much, but just that little piece of heaven before I start working is absolutely necessary.

Organization has never been my forte. I have organized chaos, and it works for me. I can put my hand on exactly what I need at any given time, but to look at my office, you wouldn’t guess that. Must be all the caffeine!?!?!

We attend conferences and workshops to learn how to write better, but no one can give you the exact formula for how you will best get the words from your head to the keyboard. I’m better if I have tight deadlines. I don’t enjoy “playing” on FB. Just checking in now and then in case something is happening I should know about. Or to take a break and laugh a couple minutes. I don’t have time to play games, follow drama (for the most part, there is that occasional…that I can’t resist), or watch a lot of videos. I like working under pressure. I thoroughly enjoy writing suspense when I’m angry about anything or with anyone (best time ever to murder someone safely…LOL).

I get it. I’m weird, but each of us has some type of weirdness that works for them.

Do you have a particular ritual or fun thing to do to get ready to write and write well?

Excuse me, now. I have to go back for another cup!
